One of the things that has excited us the most about this pregnancy is being able to have a homebirth. After a lot of research, this was the option we were most comfortable with and have grown to look forward to more and more. The Rudd Government's continued refusal to recognise their new maternity 'reform' will remove Australian women's fundamental human right to choose where and how she gives birth. This isn't an issue about homebirth vs hospital birth. That is a decision that should be left to each individual to make, but it sickens me to think our government is doing that for us.There is a National Day of Action this Thursday, 18th February.
If you would like to come and show your support or read more about this important issue please to do here.
The Sydney event will be outside the office of Tanya Plibersek
111-117 Devonshire Street Surry Hills NSW 2010Thursday, February 18 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am
Does he give any reason why he doesn't want this??
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if he thinks he is doing a good thing by making midwifery subsidised. The negative about this model is the Australian Medical Association has successfully lobbied to give Doctors the final decision on whether women should be able to have midwifery care. So if a doctor isn't prepared to support local midwives (and many of them aren't), then women will not be able to use this model anyway.
ReplyDeleteBloody idiots. Who do they think they are? Taking away decisions that should be made by parents. Makes me so mad. Oh and the fact that our elective c-section stats are higher than anywhere else. Maybe they'd like to spend some time analysing that instead.
ReplyDeleteI became a mumma this time last year. What has astounded me most about this journey is that from the moment you get pregnant, your body becomes very public property and that so many people suddenly feel they have the right to comment/judge/legislate it.
ReplyDeleteYou got it in one when you say it's sickening to see such intensely personal decisions being taken away...
