Yesterday we got ourselves a rocking chair. We have always talked about getting one, but it's kind of a big thing to buy (in size and cost) and we weren't sure if BB would dig it. The other day I was flipping through the paper and saw an ad for Replica Eames Rocker, on sale. I have always coveted these chairs but at the moment an original is out of our budget. We decided to go and check out this fakey. BB seemed to like it. I felt a little bit guilty for getting a replica, but what is one to do? Is it as bad as buying a fake handbag? I hope not.
The chair has been a huge success. To get BB to sleep in the evening we used to have to carry her over our shoulder and walk around the flat. This has resulted in back pain for both of us, which isn't so cool. The last couple of nights PB has read her a couple of stories in the rocker and then put her over his shoulder and rocked her to sleep in less than 10 minutes. Success!
I was also inspired to take a monthly portrait of BB in her Eames Rocker by the lovely Captain KK. Unfortunately our space is too small to actually get the whole thing in, and I was too lazy to move the table out of the way. I'm thinking of this as a practice run for next month, which will hopefully be better.
I did manage to get this picture though, which I didn't even notice until PB pointed out that BB is flashing us the peace sign. Peace BB!
PS. BB's very cool apple jumper is by Beci Orpin's Tiny Mammoth. I bought it online at my favourite kids clothes store, Little Pinwheel. They are having a sale at the moment so go check them out!

Hi Anna, I recently found your blog after reading posts from cup of jo. I'm a new blogger myself and I am inspired by yours and the other lovely blogs I keep finding.
ReplyDeleteYour baby bear is beautiful and your pictures capture moments in a magical, intimate way.
I have my Grandpas old pine rung back rocker, and when my 15month old goddaughter was staying she loved it, it calmed her down immensely for som reason!

ReplyDeleteWe also have a rocking chair at home and I sit in it to feed my little girl and then it's easy to get her to sleep. Sometimes I even fall asleep myself!
Oh that peace sign is priceless, that one will go down in history !!! I'm the same about replicas, and of course we would all have the real version if we could. I bought the same replica as your but not the rocking version, love it , they really look good sitting anywhere.
ReplyDeleteOh and on the weekend I bought a replica version of those tall bookshelves that look like the books are in one big high pile,(felt a little guilty again) but I think the real ones are about $2000,not a chance !!!
"PEACE RIGHT BACK TO YOU BB"
That photo is gorgeous. I never thought of one for a kids room but it might just be the go for a second nursery when we get to that part. :) I feel a bit ick about replicas too but seriously, a proper one is so far out of most of our budgets it's a bit silly. xo
ReplyDeleteAaahhh Anna, this picture made me laugh so much! How cute is she please? A peace lovin' little hippie. Can't stop looking at this pic and loving her to bits. x

I got an inexpensive sheep skin, put it on our Eames Rocker (also a reproduction...not that rich) and it is now the most perfect chair ever!!!
