Usually I'm complacent about the Sydney winter – for its lack of extremity and length – but this year the present arrival of balmy nights are welcome as we embrace the warmth with some outdoor art. It's hard to get this little mite to sit still and draw inside for more than five minutes so giving her free reign with the chalk and our back steps (door, floor, dishwasher...) allows her to draw and move about freely and me to clean up after dinner without her clinging to my leg. This piece was inspired by Zeph via Rothko.
And I've still been lurking around Op Shops, albeit with no supporting funds. Luckily this gem was only 2 bucks – which PB brought to my attention the whereabouts of in the back seat of the car. Thank God for change residing in couches and cars and spare handbags on weeks like this.
Good night! x

Warm? Balmy? C'mon, Anna - I'm not buying it... not with leggings and a hoodie! Sorry.
ReplyDeleteCome for a visit up north, I'll give you balmy ;)
Love the grey steps - the perfect canvas for a chalky masterpiece!
Happy weekend x
Nice score Anna. Richard Scarry is one of my all-time faves. Ola and I are loving his mystery series at the moment. His illustrations are just so damn cute.
ReplyDeleteAnd nice art BB. I love how she uses the shape of the steps as her Rothko rectangular outlines and then colours them in ;-) We're also into floors, toys, big brother's homework and body art at the moment. In the mouth, on the hands and on the feet.
Isn't it Spring around your parts? Are long sleeves worn in spring? What's going on Mother Nature?!
Oh our two. Red is the colour of passion, and don't they know it!

Ok ladies, you got me. I was tired when I wrote this and perhaps balmy was too strong a word. But it was the evening and there was no chill in the air. BB had just had a bath and my dear mum has ingrained into me that after a bath you must dress warm – even in heat – otherwise you will catch a cold.
ReplyDeleteGeez what a rant! xx
Comments are too funny. Now, that chalk art, you've got a talented little soul in your midst.
ReplyDeleteRichard Scarry! What a wonderful childhood memory to revist. Thank you. (Glad the OSGs are still smiling upon you)
ReplyDeleteGah Richard Scarry! So funny...I am at this moment searching and looking at various Lowly Worm figurines on ebay for Coco for Christmas. All she wants is Lowly in his apple car. And if I don't find one I'll have to make one, so back to the search...
ReplyDeleteBtw, that book is a real score! They are getting harder and harder to find in opshops. Good one Anna! x
